I was an early childhood teacher and center director for many years before I began freelance writing and working as a
curriculum consultant. I always loved school and my kids do, too, and I think it's largely due to the great teachers we've been fortunate to work with!
This site gets a lot of hits from teachers looking for book-related classroom
activities, so I've compiled some links especially for you.
Curriculum resources on this site:
-
In search of activity guides for great books? Here are a few goodies.
-
Looking for new book recommendations? Check out my Book Nook.
-
Need help evaluating books for
classroom use? Try this checklist.
-
Want to know the words to the songs and fingerplays I share at story hour? You
can find them
here.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you do school visits? Yes! Read all about them
here.
- Do you donate school visits? I do a limited number of free visits
each year, and these tend to be booked far in advance. Please understand that
most authors receive many requests for free visits and if we indulged them
all, we'd have little time for writing. I do have suggestions for funding a
school visit on my visits page.
- Can you donate a copy of your book for my classroom/auction/fundraiser?
I do donate many copies of books to favorite causes each year. Please
understand that these are not "free author copies," but books that I
have paid for myself. In general, most of my donations are to people,
places, and causes with which I have personal connections. I generally don't respond to form/blanket requests.
- What about review copies? Professional reviewers may contact any of
my publishers for review copies of my books.
