Fabulous Non-Fiction

Facts are fun and funny in this collection of un-stuffy educational books!

Bouncing Baby Books

I always like to give expecting parents (and siblings, and grandparents!) a selection of great books for baby showers and new baby gifts. I love to introduce readers to new classics, and I've collected a short list of my favorites (I'd need several pages to list all the ones that I actually own!). You will not find PAT THE BUNNY, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, or GOODNIGHT MOON on my list, as those books are pretty easy to bump into in any bookstore. I listed the ones you might miss if you don't know where to look!

Doggone Good Books!
Our dog, Buck, thinks he’s a person. A very well-behaved third son (although he doesn't argue or leave dirty socks lying around the house!) . When we wrestle, he wrestles. His brothers go to bed, he goes to bed. We read books...he’s right up on the bed with us, following along. Click here for a list of some of his favorite doggone good reads...and remarks!

Problem Books
Sometimes I'm stumped when people ask me for "issue" books because I very rarely enjoy a book that hits the reader over the head a heavy-handed lesson or preachy moral. I do love a good book about creative problem solving, though. Here are a few of my favorites.

Sibling Revelry

I still haven't found a book that quite captures the experience of growing up as one of twelve (hmmm...maybe that one has my name on it?) but the books on this list include many universal sibling experiences: the good, the bad, and the ugly! (Or perhaps that should be, the love, the bickering, and the bad ideas?!)

Snow Business

In honor of HELLO, SNOW's release, I pulled all my snowy books off my bookshelves. Whether you live in the frozen north or only dream of snowdrifts, this collection of my favorite winter reads will have you shivering with delight!

Yucky Stuff
Birds do it. Bees do it. People do it! In honor of all the kids (and grown-ups) who can't help but giggle at basic bodily functions, I've compiled a list of great gross-out books. Don't say I didn't warn you!
